Between August 10 and October 5, experts from the field of mental health made presentations on various topics related to the difficulties encountered in daily life in the seminars held within the Psychology in Islamic Thought Platform. These presentations included the scientific literature of the subject, its place in Islamic thought and practical application suggestions.

Anxiety Workshop

If anxiety goes beyond natural limits, it can make daily life unsustainable and disrupt the functionality of the person. This workshop will focus on the skills of recognizing and managing anxiety. In this seminar, questions such as “What is anxiety, how can its effect on people be understood?” and “What are the functional and non-functional aspects of anxiety?” as well as positive and negative coping methods for anxiety and correct coping methods will be discussed.

Ways to Deal with Anger

The emotion of anger, which is one of our most basic emotions, the basic components of this emotion, the question of whether anger is always a bad emotion, and methods of coping with anger were shared in the form of practical exercises. The presentation also included references to Islamic thought both in terms of recognizing the emotion of anger and the relationship to be established with anger and coping methods.

Coping with Stress

In this presentation, the definition of the word stress, which we commonly use for many things in our daily lives, the sources of stress, the problems and psychological aspects of stress, and effective ways of coping with stress were enriched with references to Islamic thought.

The skills of psychological flexibility (Hayes et al., 2006), which is the ability to act in line with value-oriented goals in the presence of various internal and external obstacles, were enriched with references to the Holy Quran, Hadiths and Religious Texts.

Motivation and Roadmapping

In this seminar, the parts of motivation, internal and external motivation factors were examined and a content on how to create a road map was presented. In order to keep one’s motivation alive on the road to one’s life purpose; topics such as starting with hope, self-knowledge, analysis of the current situation, discovery of one’s abilities and goal setting were emphasized. References to Islamic thought were also used in the presentation.
