The Fourth Session of the Psychology in Islamic Intellectual Tradition 2024 Seminars Was Held
On Thursday, June 6, the fourth session of the series on Psychology in Islamic Intelectual Tradition was held at Istanbul University’s Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Congress and Culture Center. In the seminar, Dr. Taha Burak Toprak delivered his presentation titled “An Attempt for a Roadmap.”
In the presentation, the possibilities and limitations of the fields regarding how a solid relationship and roadmap could be established between our traditional heritage and modern psychology were discussed.
Alongside these discussions, the areas of immutable principles and context-dependent rulings were emphasized through a multidimensional approach to reality. Dr. Toprak highlighted that questioning immutable principles could lead to corruption, while failing to understand context-dependent rulings might result in dogmatism. Dr. Toprak stated that different therapy models have different ontological understandings, which in turn engender different approaches to the psyche.
He emphasized that these preferences shape the interventions made in the therapy room, making it important to be aware of the metaphysical understandings of the models used.
