II. Symposium of Psychology in Islamic Thought

The second IDP & IGP symposium was held in Istanbul on July 1-3. Participants working in various sub-fields of psychology had the opportunity to present their work, which is an integrative research proposal with Islamic thought. The presentations aimed to combine the heritage of modern psychology and Islamic thought by offering new perspectives and solutions to current problems.

At the same time, the participants working in the same field of interest were able to meet and share ideas in order to see the common horizon for potential working groups. After the symposium, the need for potential studies in different sub-fields of psychology and the clarification of the methodology for doing so revealed the hopes and expectations for future studies.

“What kind of relationship can we establish with the current science of psychology and its knowledge?” 

“What are the responsibilities of the different relationship styles we establish?”, 

“What does Islamic Thought tell us, in many areas such as the foundations of psychology, developmental theory, cognitive science, social psychology in the context of the philosophy of science?”

 “In the Islamic tradition, can a psychotherapy model be formulated from the theoretical structures regarding human beings, and if so, how?” 

“Could new aspects be considered regarding social treatment models?”
